The short version
Some of the behavior guides on this site link to products. A few of those are affiliate links, mostly Amazon. If you buy through one, I may earn a small commission. The price you pay is exactly the same.
Where the links are, and where they are not
Affiliate links appear in the behavior guides, where a piece of equipment is part of the answer: a long line for recall work, a crate, a muzzle, a chew. They do not appear on the service pages. No program, price, or recommendation about your dog's training is connected to a commission in any way.
What an affiliate link is
An affiliate link carries an identifier that tells the retailer the click came from this website. If a purchase follows, the retailer pays a commission out of their own margin. Nothing is added to your cost.
Amazon
As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. Amazon links on this site carry the Associates tag dw-dog-20, which is what identifies the referral. Clicking one and buying something may earn a commission from Amazon at no additional cost to you.
Affiliate links are not trackers
This is worth being precise about, because the two get confused.
An affiliate link is an ordinary link. It sits in the page doing nothing. It loads no script, sets no cookie, and reports nothing while you read. Nobody knows you saw it.
It only does anything if you click it, and what happens then is that you arrive at Amazon and Amazon's own cookies and privacy policy apply, exactly as they would if you had typed the address into your browser yourself. Nothing is passed to me except, eventually, a count of purchases.
That is why affiliate links are not part of this site's cookie consent gate: there is nothing to gate until you decide to click. The things that genuinely do load third-party code, the Google map and the reviews widget, are gated, and you can review or change that on the Cookie Settings page. The full picture is in the Privacy Policy.
Other programs
I take part in other affiliate programs on the same terms: a commission may be earned on a purchase or signup made through a link, and there is never an extra cost to you.
Why the links exist
Running the site and writing the guides takes time. Affiliate commissions help cover the hosting, the research, and the work of keeping the behavior guides free to read.
What I will not do
- I will not recommend equipment I would not use on a dog myself.
- I will not recommend a product just because it pays better.
- I will not pretend a link is not an affiliate link.
- I will not let a commission decide what a guide says about your dog.
Training equipment matters, and the wrong tool in the wrong hands makes a behavior problem worse. If a product is not right for your dog, I would rather tell you that than earn a commission on it. If I have not used something, I will say so.
Questions
Call (443) 429-0445 or use the contact form and ask. If you would rather not use an affiliate link, search the product name directly; it makes no difference to the advice.
