Privacy Policy

Introduction
DW Dog Training (“I”, “me”, or “my”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what information I collect through dwdogtraining.com, how I use it, and the choices you have. I am based in the Baltimore, Maryland area, so the Maryland Online Data Privacy Act (MODPA) applies to how I handle personal data, alongside other state privacy laws.
This policy names the specific services this website uses and what each one receives, rather than describing website practices in general. If you want to know exactly what loads and when, the sections on cookies and third parties below are written to answer that.
Information I Collect
Information You Provide
When you call, email, or send the contact form, you may give me your name, email address, phone number, the program you are interested in, what you want to accomplish with training, and the behavior concerns you have about your dog. You provide this voluntarily, and I use it to answer you and to plan training.
Information About Your Dog
To recommend a program honestly I need to know about your dog: age, breed, history, and the behavior you are dealing with. This is training information, not medical records, and I do not diagnose or treat medical conditions. Anything you tell me about your dog stays between us.
Information Collected Automatically
The website is hosted by Netlify. Like any web host, Netlify's servers record basic technical information when a page is requested, including your IP address, browser and device type, the page requested, and the site you arrived from. That happens for the website to be delivered to you at all and it is not something a consent choice can switch off.
Beyond that, nothing measures your visit unless you agree to it first. See Cookies and Tracking below.
How I Use Your Information
- To respond to your enquiry and discuss training
- To schedule consultations, evaluations, and sessions
- To send information you asked for
- To keep records of the training work I do
- To improve the guides and the website
- To meet legal obligations
How I Share Your Information
I do not sell your personal information, and I do not share it for targeted advertising. Information is shared only with the service providers listed below, when required by law, or with your consent.
The Contact Form
The contact form is handled by Netlify Forms. When you submit it, the details you typed are transmitted to and stored by Netlify, and a notification is sent to me. So a form submission is held in two places: Netlify's records and my own.
Sending the form is an enquiry, not a booking. Nothing is charged and no appointment is confirmed by submitting it. If you would rather not use a web form at all, call (443) 429-0445 and none of the above applies.
Cookies and Tracking
The Rule This Site Follows
Nothing that tracks you loads until you choose. When you first visit, a banner asks, and Accept and Decline are the same size and weight, because a choice is not a real choice when one option is easier to press than the other. Until you answer, the third-party features below do not load at all.
Your Choice Is Stored in Your Browser
Your answer is kept in your own browser's local storage under the name wl-cookie-consent. It is not sent to me, it is not stored on a server, and it is not a tracking identifier. Clearing your browser data clears it, and the banner asks again.
You can change your answer at any time on the Cookie Settings page, which is linked in the footer of every page.
Global Privacy Control (GPC)
If your browser or extension sends a Global Privacy Control signal, the site treats it as an opt-out. Nothing tracking loads, and the banner does not appear at all, because you have already answered. Maryland and several other states recognize GPC as a legally binding universal opt-out signal, and it is honored here automatically without you doing anything else.
What Loads Only After You Accept
- Google Maps. The map in the footer is an embed from Google. Loading it sends your
IP address to Google and allows Google to set its own cookies. Until you accept, the footer shows a plain link to the Google listing instead, which sets nothing until you click it.
- Elfsight Google Reviews. The reviews shown on the home, about, and contact pages
come from a widget served by Elfsight, which reads my Google Business Profile reviews. Loading it runs a script from elfsightcdn.com and sends your IP address to Elfsight and on to Google. Until you accept, a link to the Google listing shows instead.
- Facebook video. One guide embeds a video hosted on Facebook. Loading it runs a player
from facebook.com and sends your IP address to Meta, whether or not you press play. Until you accept, a plain link to the video on Facebook shows instead.
- Analytics. Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity measure how the site is used.
Clarity is worth calling out specifically: as well as counting page views, it can record a playback of a session, including mouse movement, clicks, and scrolling. It is used to see where a page confuses people. It does not capture what you type into the contact form.
What Is Never Used
- No advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or conversion tracking for ad platforms
- No Meta Pixel and no Google Ads tag
- No advertising profile built from your visit
- No sale of personal data, and no sharing of it for cross-context behavioral advertising
Declining costs you nothing: every page, every guide, every price, and the phone number work exactly the same either way.
Affiliate Links
Some of the behavior guides link to products on Amazon using the Amazon Associates tag dw-dog-20. An affiliate link is not a tracker: it sits in the page doing nothing until you click it, and it does not load a script or set a cookie while you read. If you do click through to Amazon, Amazon's own cookies and privacy policy apply from that point, the same as if you had typed the address yourself.
Because they only act on a click, affiliate links are not part of the consent gate above. Full detail is on the Affiliate Disclosure page.
Third Parties, In One List
For completeness, everything that can receive data about your visit:
- Netlify, website hosting and the contact form. Receives request logs for every
visit and the contents of any form you submit.
- Google, the footer map embed and Google Analytics. Only after you accept.
- Elfsight, the Google reviews widget. Only after you accept.
- Microsoft, Clarity analytics. Only after you accept.
- Meta, the Facebook video player on one guide. Only after you accept.
- Amazon, only if you click an affiliate link in a guide.
There is no advertising network on this list, and there is no data broker on it.
Your Privacy Rights
Rights Available to You
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data I hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to obtain a copy of it, and to opt out of targeted advertising, the sale of personal data, and certain profiling. Since I do not sell data or run targeted advertising, the last of those is already the case for everyone.
Maryland Residents (MODPA)
Maryland residents have rights under the Maryland Online Data Privacy Act, including access, correction, deletion, and portability, plus the right to opt out of targeted advertising, sale, and profiling. MODPA also requires data minimization: I collect only what is reasonably necessary to provide training and answer your enquiry. Universal opt-out signals such as GPC are honored.
Sensitive Data
Where state law requires opt-in consent before processing sensitive personal information, I obtain it. I do not use website cookies to collect sensitive categories of data, and I do not use them for advertising.
Other U.S. States
Comprehensive privacy laws are in effect in a growing number of states, including California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Delaware, New Jersey, Minnesota, Tennessee, Indiana, Kentucky, Rhode Island, and Maryland. I honor the rights described above for residents of any state whose law grants them.
How to Exercise Your Rights
Call (443) 429-0445 or use the contact form. I may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, and I will respond within the time your state's law allows.
International Visitors
The business is based in Maryland, USA, and the website is intended primarily for visitors in the United States. The behavior guides are read internationally. If you visit from outside the United States, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those where you live. Where a stricter consent standard applies to you, the consent banner asks before any analytics cookie is set.
Children's Privacy
This website is not directed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided information, contact me and I will delete it.
If you receive email from me, every message identifies who it is from and gives you a way to stop receiving them. I do not sell or rent email addresses.
Third-Party Websites
Guides may link to other websites. I am not responsible for their privacy practices, and their policies govern what they collect.
Data Security and Retention
Reasonable measures protect the information I hold, though no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Information is kept only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected for, or as long as the law requires.
Data Breach Notification
If a breach affects your personal information, you will be notified as required by Maryland law and any other applicable state law.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, the updated version is posted here with a new date at the top.
